zDen Featured in The Guardian: Why One Writer Made It Part of Her Nightly Routine

We are excited to see the zDen Personal Sleep Sanctuary featured in The Guardian’s The Filter.

Writer Tracy Allison discovered zDen while searching for a better way to create the darkness she needed for sleep. Even with blackout curtains and an eye mask, small amounts of light could still wake her. She purchased a zDen, made it part of her nightly routine in May 2025, and has been using it nearly every night since.

And she did not leave it at home when she traveled.

Tracy packed her zDen for a three-week road trip through Ireland, where summer daylight can last up to 17 hours. From a B&B without curtains to a campground, having her own portable dark sleep space meant she did not have to rely on whatever sleep environment happened to be waiting for her.

Her review is also refreshingly honest about one of our favorite subjects: yes, sleeping in a zDen can look a little unconventional. Tracy even compares it to the Grim Reaper’s hood. We laughed too.

But her experience gets to the reason zDen exists. When light gets in the way of sleep, creating your own personal dark sleep space can make a meaningful difference.

For zDen creator Danielle Fujii, the story is especially personal. The first zDen prototype was created from blackout curtains when Danielle needed darkness for migraine recovery and could not find a solution that provided the darkness she needed without putting something directly on her face.

What began as a solution to one person’s problem is now helping people create a dark and dedicated sleep zone at home, in shared spaces, while traveling, and whenever their surroundings are not dark enough.

And if getting your zzz’s means looking a little ridiculous? We’re all for it.
